Our client, a well-established, family-run engineering, and logistics group, is seeking a commercially and financially savvy Transport Manager for a dynamic, hands-on role reporting directly to the Managing Director. This position involves overseeing a diverse fleet of approximately 20 vehicles and drivers across two sites.

As the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for all aspects of the Transport Department, including vehicle maintenance and compliance, staff planning and development, load planning, administration, and financial budgeting. Your role will be pivotal in the production and supply chain, where you will manage personnel, processes, systems, and finances to ensure timely and complete dispatch and delivery of goods within budget constraints. Additionally, you will ensure that driver health and safety standards are upheld, along with adherence to best practices and regulatory compliance.

The ideal Transport Manager is self-motivated, organised, and results-oriented, with the ability to thrive under pressure, both independently and as part of a team. A strong commitment to quality, customer service, and financial performance is essential.

Key Responsibilities as a Transport Manager:
  • Ensure full legal compliance across all transport operations.
  • Stay updated on current road transport legislation.
  • Oversee compliance with driver hours and the Working Time Directive.
  • Manage drivers, ensuring they meet health and safety standards, complete daily vehicle checks, and operate vehicles legally and safely.
  • Conduct driver licensing checks quarterly.
  • Ensure driver CPC training is current.
  • Download and analyze tachograph data.
  • Maintain compliance with the Driver and Working Time Directive.
  • Monitor and manage OCRS scores.
  • Plan vehicle loads and manage stock control to optimise routing.
  • Ensure vehicle maintenance is compliant with regulations.
  • Arrange for the hiring of trucks and trailers as required.
  • Handle recruitment and disciplinary matters within the department.
  • Analyse fuel consumption data and report on findings.
  • Manage the department’s profit and loss responsibilities.
Key Skills:
  • Extensive experience in transport management.
  • Holder of a CPC Qualification (International).
  • At least 2 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Current LGV Class 1 driving license (preferred).
  • Financial acumen with the ability to interpret transport accounts.
  • Strong communication skills across all levels.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
